Call to Order The regular monthly meeting of the USD #256 Board of Education was called to order by President, Steve Becker, in the district office at 7:07 p.m. on Monday evening, June 9, 2008.

Members Present The members present were Steve Becker, Patti Boyd, Bob Rhodes, and Judi Knight. Also present were Nancy Meyer, Ken McWhirter, Sherry Henry, Debra Carr, and Jeremy Boldra.

Consent Agenda Patti Boyd moved to approve items a-c of the June consent agenda as presented with the addition to the agenda of VI. I. Mill Levy. Judi Knight seconded the motion, and it carried 4 – 0.

Audiences Debra Carr requested an executive session with the board. Patti Boyd moved to go into executive session for 10 minutes at 7:12 p.m. to discuss non-elected personnel with Nancy Meyer and Debra Carr also present. Judi Knight seconded the motion, and it carried 4 – 0.

The board returned to open session at 7:22 p.m. and Melvin Bland arrived at the meeting while Debra Carr left the meeting.

Reports Nancy Meyer reported on the internet.

Ken McWhirter reported on the end of year reports, summer school, and state assessments.

Jeremy Boldra stated his summer plans.

Judi Knight reported on the ANW Special Education Cooperative.

July Meeting Date Patti Boyd moved to have the July organizational meeting on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Bob Rhodes seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

FS Agreement Judi Knight moved to approve the Food Service Agreement for 2008-09. Patti Boyd seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Budget Melvin Bland moved to allow the superintendent and clerk to complete the 2007-08 budget by making the necessary transfers and expenditures. Judi Knight seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

District Insurance Patti Boyd moved to approve the insurance for the district from PSI for 08-09 for a total of $51,141.00. Bob Rhodes seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Reading Institute Bob Rhodes moved to allow Gail Lackrone and Lori Stephens to attend the Master Reading Summer Institute in Seattle this summer. Judi Knight seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Handbooks Patti Boyd moved to approve the Elementary Handbook as presented with the addition of the cell phone communication letter and personnel changes for 2008-09. Judi Knight seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Patti Boyd moved to approve the Jr/Sr Handbook without the attendance policy which will be approved at a later date for 2008-09. Judi Knight seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Elem Tech Lab Melvin Bland moved to purchase 22 computers for the elementary technology lab. Judi Knight seconded the motion, and it carried

5 – 0.

Facilities Discussion of last month’s facility tour and repairs/maintenance needed was held.

Mill Levy Discussion of the mill levy was held. The board decided to have a special meeting on June 23, 2008 at 8:00 p.m.

Personnel No action was taken on the resignation presented to the board.

Patti Boyd moved to hire Sarah Buttenhoff as Vo-Ag Instructor for 2008-09. Judi Knight seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Patti Boyd moved to hire Cynthia Johnson as elementary secretary for $10/hour for 2008-09. Bob Rhodes seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Patti Boyd moved to hire Nancy Houk as summer custodian, Janet McBride as elementary day custodian, Gloria Gill as elementary evening custodian, and Doug Geary as part-time and activities custodian for 2008-09. Melvin Bland seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Patti Boyd moved to hire Lindsay Johnson as IDL/library para for 2008-09. Melvin Bland seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Judi Knight moved to hire Jo Tucker and Kenna McWhirter as summer school paras. Bob Rhodes seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Melvin Bland moved to hire Paula Miller as concessions sponsor for 2008-09. Patti Boyd seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Bob Rhodes moved to hire Linsday Johnson as SH Asst. Volleyball and Nancy Meyer as SH Head Volleyball for 2008-09. Judi Knight seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Patti Boyd moved to hire Sarah Buttenhoff as SH Asst. Girls Basketball for 2008-09. Melvin Bland seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Melvin Bland moved to pay Paula Miller $300 for the summer dance camp. Patti Boyd seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.

Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 12:04 a.m.
