WAMEGO — Marmaton Valley High’s Zachary Louk worked hard all cross country season. His reward was being able to compete in Saturday’s 2009 Kansas Class 2A State Cross Country Meet in Wamego.
Louk made the most of his second trip to state claiming his first state medal. Louk finished the 5K race in 18 minutes, 12.27 seconds.
As a freshman a year ago, Louk was 67th in 20:10.12.
“It feels great to get a state medal. I had a good race,” Louk said. “Worked hard this year and I just kept moving up during the house.
“I kept working on the hills. There was one long hill that was pretty rough on me.”
With his top-20 finish, Louk became a Class 2A All-State runner.
