Notification of Title I Teachers and Highly Qualified Instructors

As prescribed by law the Marmaton Valley Unified School District must notify the parents of the teachers and highly qualified instructors who are providing services to the Title I students. All new Title I teachers hired beginning in 2002-2003 must be highly qualified. To be determined as a highly qualified the teacher must be a fully licensed teacher at the level they teach. Title I paraprofessionals who were hired prior to January 8, 2002 had until January 8, 2006 to meet the requirements of becoming highly qualified. Title I paraprofessionals who were hired after January 8, 2002 must have meet the highly qualified requirements prior to full employment.
A highly qualified instructor must have met one of the following criteria:
- Completed two years of study at an institution of higher learning;
- Obtained an Associate’s (or higher) Degree; or
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and math (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, or mathematics readiness).
