U.S.D. #256 is committed to providing an educational environment that promotes the maximum mental, physical, and social development of each individual.

USD 256 Marmaton Valley Schools:
USD 256, Marmaton Valley Schools is located in the eastern half of Allen County in Southeast Kansas. The district covers 225 square miles, it includes the communities of Elsmore, Mildred, Moran, and Savonburg. The district’s two attendance centers and district office are located in Moran, Ks all at one campus site – 128 West Oak Street.
There are two four-year universities (Pittsburg and Ottawa) and four community colleges (Allen County, Neosho County, Labette County and Fort Scott) all within a 60 mile radius of the school district.
The following items are highlights of USD 256:
- Junior/Senior High School is accredited by the North Central Association
- Marmaton Valley Elementary is Quality Performance Accredited
- All Facilities are on one campus site
- Marmaton Valley Elementary, 2004 Challenge Award Honoree, 4th grade Math
- Marmaton Valley High School, 2004, Challenge Award Honoree, 10th grade Math
- High School has an interactive distance learning laboratory (IDL) that provides students with the opportunity to receive high school and college credit concurrently
- T-1 Internet capability
- Two elementary technology rich classrooms (3rd & 4th grade)
- Wireless portable computer lab – computers on a cart
- Computer laboratory
- New Commons, Kitchen , two classrooms, weight room Gym and locker rooms added in 1998
- Century 21, after-school program for K – 12 students
- Vocational programs in agriculture, business, industrial technology and family and consumer science
- Vocational agriculture has a horticulture program with a greenhouse on site
